The Women's & Men's Autumn/Winter 2014 Fashion Trends Review

Autumn came for good! I did the same thing like last time when I was making the trends review and I went to the St. James Park for some inspirations. I love this period of the year. It seem sad and nostalgic sometimes, bot cheer up! Look for the good! Today was amazing! Beautiful gold trees, crispy air and cinnamon latte from Starbucks. On top of that I was super happy to wear my favorite parka jacket today! Time to bring back coats, hats and scarfs! Yay!
I've made again a look back for the runways and I decided to do so every six months (April & October). It's a good way to stay tuned and got inspired. So today I'm coming up with my A/W'14 trends review. Have a look on it and don't forget to look back into your wardrobe until next shopping ;)

As always... my beloved girls goes first:

Women's A/W 2014 fashion trends review:
These are main, and most showed trends on fashion weeks for this season:

Oversize outwear
Obviously it is a season that burst in outwear although this year designers approached it in all different shapes and silhouettes. It's one area of the ladies wardrobe where anti-fit notion has really stamped its mark. We've seen ponchos, raglan and cocooning coats or even blankets. The rule is to go oversize. Feel cosy, comfy and be hot!

3.1 Phillip Lim | Altuzarra | Roberto Cavalli

Vivienne Westwood | Hermes | Celine

Fur
50's epitome of elegant femininity is back on the runway whether worn as a dress or as a coat. We've seen it literally everywhere. It is a major trend and definitely a must-have for this winter. So wear it as a big oversized coat, on the edge of your hood or even a fur bag. Add a hint of glamour to your life!

Alexander McQueen | Chloe | Givenchy

Fendi | Dolce & Gabbana | Balmain

Turtleneck
High-neck top has made big come back. It was approached by many designers for this season in many various length and shapes. You can wear it in many different ways. As a top or under dress or shirt.

Alexander Wang | Balenciaga | Just Cavalli

Louis Vuitton | Marni | Chanel

Shearing
Next master trend for this season. Warm and chunky material dominated runways across the globe and get a bit new approach. We've seen sheepskin in all those allure shapes, lengths and colours.
It would be for sure a good investment this season.

Isabel Marant | Burberry Prorsum | 3.1 Phillip Lim

Altuzarra | Emilio Pucci | Prada

Knitwear
Relaxed aesthetic has been embraced by fashion so knitwear shouldn't be a surprise. Especially at this time of the year although there's nothing traditional about it and it's back a bit updated. The Autumn- Winter 2014-15 season knitwear has gone veritably mad! Multicolored, with spikes, with rope, oversize, inside out, unfinished or just simply as far removed from classic as possible.

Celine | Missoni | Stella McCartney

Chanel | Marc Jacobs | Calvin Klein Collection

Capes
We've also encountered the great return on the cape. The case for the cape is that it's the only truly new-season coat update around this winter. It comes in a vide range of shapes and lengths. Convinced?

Burberry Prorsum | Valentino | Ellie Saab

Dolce & Gabbana | Saint Laurent | Sacai

Shimmering
Fashion has its gold standard and for the Fall - Winter season sparkle is a norm. Wear your jewellery as a dress and shine at the cocktail hour!

Celine | 3.1 Phillip Lim | Saint Laurent

Miu Miu | Gucci | Marc Jacobs

Military Green
Khaki, olives and all hues of dark green got thumbs up for autumn. Wear it from head to toe or mix with brown, camel, burgundy, black or navy!

Isabel Marant | Marc by Marc Jacobs | Alberta Ferretti

Balmain | Giorgio Armani | Marni

Retro colours
Designers got influenced by 60's. We could have seen a lot of bold and bright patterns and colours. Exactly like in 60'!

Gucci | Carven | Valentino

DSquared2 | Altuzarra | Alexander Wang

My favorites this season are Burberry Prorsum, Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana and Ellie Saab! Love them!

Key words: military, shearling, burgundy, camel, green, flowers, 60's, fur, knitwear, turtleneck, oversize outwear, leather, metal, shimmering, red, black & white, sport.

Man's A/W 2014 fashion trends review:
These are main, and most showed trends on runways for this season:

Oversize outwear
Sloping shoulders and oversize dimensions rule the overcoat trend for this season. Either casual or formal, short or long. Outwear comes in all different types and shapes although the most seen were double-breasted long coats, bomber, biker and quilted jackets.

Louis Vuitton | Burberry Prorsum | Belrutti

Maison Martin Martgiela | Yohji Yamamoto | Calvin Klein Collection

Fur
Either real or faux one, from full coats to small detailing. Fur is back on the menswear agenda. It brings luxury and sophistication to men's outerwear. I actually love it. It really can work well, adding interest and texture to the look without it becoming too extravagant and over the top. A/W14' runways proved it:

Dolce & Gabbana | Burberry Prorsum | Louis Vuitton

Givenchy | Fendi | Dior Homme

Turtleneck
Knit is an obvious thing to see on the autumn runway while roll necks, not so much. High-necks has made a big come back on this seasons runways. We've seen them a lot, from chunky big knitwear to more light versions. Will you be going all out Parisian chic? I honestly don't have any turtleneck in my wardrobe and I'm not planning to have it anytime soon although I'll try it whenever I'll see one. You never know!

Gucci | Fendi | Jil Sander

Hermes | DKNY | Bottega Venta

Shearing
Obviously all A/W'14 collections are bursting in coats, jackets etc. although this year there's something that a lot of those have in common - shearing (delivered from sheep or lamb), a major military trend on the catwalks. Looks a bit like the classic bombardier pilots jacket from WWII. Even a small detail made of this chunky nice material will make the garment trendy and hot!

Roberto Cavalli | Fendi | Dior Homme

Bottega Venta | Gucci | Missoni

Biker jacket
We've seen plenty of references on punk aesthetic this year. The 60' spirit is back with it's flagship element - biker jacket. It's hard not to look good in a leather biker. Its flattering and effortless cool. Absolutely must-have this season. Add some heavy boots, check shirt and even studs to it . I Love it!

Kent & Curwen | Diesel | Custome National

Bottega Venta | Saint Laurent | Vivienne Westwood

Quilted outwear
Puffy, quilted jackets are coming back for this season. I was never a big fan of it to be honest since I saw a big red marshmallow in the fitting-room mirror as a young boy. It's all about right choice and shape though so choose one as streamlined as possible compare it with nice slim jeans or a pair of chinos and done!
There were quilted long coats as well as short quilted jackets seen on the fashion weeks. A bit of a surprise is to see them together with the suits, isn't it? And it looks good I'd say... I'll definitely try it one day again!

Giorgio Armani | DSquared2 | Kent & Curwen

Hackett London | Canali | Christopher Shannon

Check
It's definitely one of the most recognisable patterns on the A/W runways. We've seen it in all sizes, colours and on different garments. It's easy to adopt trend and even a small pattern on your socks or tie will be a nice touch. Check + Punk brings Vivienne Westwood signature red&black check to my mind and I think that's the one I would go for!

Alexander McQueen | Saint Laurent | Carven

Kenzo | Versace | Vivienne Westwood

Blue
It's again the colour of the season. Blue has made a big statement on the runways this year. Basic and easy trend. A colour that everyone already own and feel comfortable with. However it may be a great occasion to try different shades of blue, something more original and different.

Gucci | Giorgio Armani | Dior Homme

Burberry Prorsum | Louis Vuitton | Topman Design

Orange
Set to be one of the biggest colour trends. Zesty orange of it will cheer you up in one of those dark long autumn days. Compare it wits some navy or brown shades. I think it would work perfectly.
I personally like it more on top rather than bottom though. If you are shy then try more apricot and ginger hues. Go citrus this autumn!

Etro | Topman Design | Olivier Spencer

DSquared2 | Christopher Shannon | Raf Simons

Military Green
It's autumn! To see light blue or zesty orange at this seasons runways could've been a bit of a surprise however what autumn would be without those leaves colours? Designers didn't forget about it and we could see all those darker shades of green, olives, khaki or hunter green mainly but also brownish colours. I am happy to see burgundy back too!

Lanvin | Prada | Versace

Bottega Venta | Calvin Klein Collection | Valentino

As you can see there's a lot going on. I'm sure this season won't be boring and grey, all in your hands though! My favorites from menswear are: Burberry Prorsum, Dior Homme, Fendi & Givenchy.

Key words: military, camouflage, shearling, burgundy, green, flowers, punk, biker jacket, check, fur, knitwear, turtleneck, oversize outwear, slim trousers, quilted jacket, blue, orange, black & white, sport.

Remember those key words while dressing up and shopping. You can't go wrong with it!

I am looking forward for winter to come! Yes, summer has it's bright colours, lightweight layers and comfy slippers but so what? Autumn and Winter have warm coats, sexy boots and big multicolour scarfs. And those warm nights by the fire and under the blanket with company of a hot tea with honey. Mmmmmm...

Hope you like and agree with the review I did. Next one will come up in 6 months - in April.
